Card Laminate
My green card plastic lamination is coming off because of water damage. Can i laminate it?
I lost my green card and found it but the plastic lamination is water damage in the sides. Does anyone know if i can relaminate it? or do i need to get it replace? Thanks!
Laminating it would be an unauthorized alteration. If it’s just peeling slightly and you don’t travel very often, you should be okay. However, if you travel frequently, you’re going to be presenting the card to CBP officers who may tell you that you need to apply for a replacement.
You personally cannot laminate it. Can you still tell who it is in the photo? Could a complete stranger identify the person in the photo? Is any of the font blurry or disturbed by the water damage? Replacement cards are expensive, and I hate to see you spend money when you may not need to.
However, if you are going to be presenting it to border officers two or three times a year, or if the damage is pretty extreme, you need to file form I-90 for a new card.
