Laminate Floor Repair
Laminate flooring repair?
I put some puddles of ammonia on my laminate (fake wood) flooring. Where I put the puddle down it turned brown. Almost looks like I stripped it. What do I do? Can I put something over the brown to make it look better?
Ammonia will not damage the finish your floor. As a flooring installer, I recommend the use of ammonia or vinegar to clean laminate floors. The problem probably was probably caused by the ammonia being in puddles. If any liquid is left standing on a laminate floor for any period of time, it will leak into the seams of the boards. This will cause the board to swell and the laminate finish so bubble or separate. Since the liquid is ammonia in this case it sounds like it also has discoloured the floor BENEATH the laminated finish. If there are bubbles in the finish a dehumidifier will help but I doubt that they will completely disappear. The brown spots, I’m afraid aren’t going anywhere. You can call a professional laminate installer to replace a board or two if you wish. Most people are not aware of this option.
