Laminate Glue
Laminate Glue
What glue do I use to make a table with bottle caps?
My friend built a table with bottle caps and poured a clear laminate glue that settled and dried clear and level, but he couldnt remember the name of the glue he used. Does anyone maybe have any ideas or suggestions on what I could use to build a table like this?
Definitely NOT Elmers (or any other “white glue”).
What he used is almost certainly a 2-part clear “epoxy resin.”
In hardware and home improvement stores like Home Depot, clear epoxy resin may also be called “bartop resin” because so many bar tops use it, often with embedments of various kinds inside the resin (bottle caps, sealed beer coasters, etc).
Clear epoxy resin is different from clear polyester “casting” resin (for molds or for “fiberglass”) though so be sure to get the right kind.
There are some brand names, supply sources, and even links to lessons on doing this kind of thing to large flat surfaces with epoxy resin on this page at my site:
http://glassattic.com/polymer/other_materials.htm (click on *Brands* under the Epoxy category, then scroll down through several of the sub-categories under that)
(And btw, resins technically don’t “dry”…they cure by a chemical reaction that occurs when the two parts are mixed together.)
