Choosing The Right Cartridge For Your Xyron Laminator

Laminating with a Xyron cold process laminator is actually very easy. You simply insert the cartridge, put your document in the opening and crank the handle to pull the document through and laminate it. There really isn’t that much to it. However, unless you have the right type of laminating cartridge you will not get the results that you need. This article is designed to help you choose the right cartridge for your needs.

The first step in choosing the right cartridge for your laminator is to figure out what model of laminator that you have. Unfortunately, cartridges for different models of laminators are not interchangeable. This means that you will need to choose a laminating cartridge that is built for your particular laminator. Depending on the model of laminator that you have the options for laminating might be somewhat limited. However, here are some of the options that you may get to choose from.

1. Two Sided Laminate: These cartridges add a permanent protective laminate to both sides of your documents. The finished result will look just like any other laminated document that is finished with a roll laminator or pouch laminator. Two sided laminate cartridges usually use gloss laminate for both sides. However, sometimes cartridges are available with one side matte and the other side gloss or even with both sides matte.

2. Repositionable Adhesive: This type of cartridge doesn’t actually laminate your documents. Instead it applies a thin layer of repositionable adhesive onto the back of your document. This type of cartridge is often used to make stickers or signs. With the repositionable adhesive there isn’t supposed to be a residue left behind when the sticker is moved. However, depending on the temperature and length of time that the items are left it may end up leaving a residue.

3. Permanent Adhesive: Permanent adhesive cartridges work the same way as repositionable cartridges but the stickers aren’t designed to be moved or removed. Permanent adhesive cartridges are great for creating packaging, labels and for the customization of hard cover books.

4. High Tack Adhesive: Again these cartridges work the same way as the other two adhesive cartridges. However, Hi tac or hi-tack cartridges utilize a more aggressive adhesive that is designed to last longer and adhere better. This is a great option for labels and other materials that might get a lot of use.

5. Laminate / Adhesive Cartridges: Sometimes you want to laminate one side of the document and apply an adhesive to the other side. In order to do this you will need laminate / adhesive cartridge. This cartridge will have either a gloss or matte laminate on one side and will apply one of the three different types of adhesive to the other side.

6. Magnet Cartridges: A few of the Xyron Creative Station laminators have the option to accept a magnet cartridge. This cartridge laminates one side of your document or item while applying a magnet to the back of the item.

Depending on the Xyron laminator that you have, the options available to you will vary. However, these are the most common types of cartridges that are available for Xyron laminators. Good luck and happy laminating.

How To Give Your Kitchen The Best Visual Impact

Kitchen makeovers can be very expensive but they don’t need to be if you know where to focus first. This article highlight one aspect of a kitchen makeover that is both affordable and can give your kitchen a fresh and stunning look.

Kitchen renovations not only help to enhance the family’s enjoyment, but also are an excellent way of increasing the overall value of your home. While there are many aspects of the kitchen that can be given a makeover, installing a new kitchen worktop is one that can give immediate visual improvements and can also totally change the ambience of the kitchen too, so this is always good place to start.

An excellent way of getting your creative juices flowing and an excellent source of inspiration is all those lovely house and home magazines that are readily available. Another great tip is to get online and have a look at some of the homes for sale as many may have been improved prior to sale or may have had kitchen improvements only a few years ago, so this is a good place to start.

Any time spent in the planning stages will be well rewarded as this will give you time to try different combinations resulting in a kitchen plenty of visual impact.

When it comes to your worktop you will be confronted with a diverse selection of materials but ultimately it will come down to your budget, that said though you would be well advised to investigate the pluses and minus of each type in relation to the wear and tear your kitchen comes under.

A classic mistake here is choosing a high gloss work surface for a busy kitchen for example. They look fabulous when first installed but are more prone showing the marks that most kitchens get along the way. Ask your supplier for advice before making your final purchase.

Be warned though that some kitchen worktops are very expensive and depending on the size of your kitchen will set you back a small fortune especially for the higher grade countertops. High end work surfaces are often used in stylish gourmet kitchens or are found in lavish luxury homes where money is no object even in today’s trying economy.

This should not present you with a problem though as there are many very fine laminate worktop materials that will look just as good and last as long, but at the same time are still very affordable, durable and come in very attractive styles.

If you are lucky enough to afford the highest quality worktops for your new kitchen or kitchen makeover then you will most probably look at natural stone, in particular marble and granite. The beauty of marble and granite countertops is of course that they are available in large slabs which means that joins will be minimal.

Another great advantage you have when working with natural stone is you are not restricted to standard sizes and shapes so if you really need a bespoke design then check with your supplier as many will have cnc machinery and will be able to cut the stone to all sorts of shapes.

Make sure you get your measurements right though as bespoke stone cutting can be very costly.

Although granite seems to be the favorite choice in stone worktops probably due to its longevity and coupled with the fact that the natural color sits well with many design styles, there are other choices of stone you can use as well for example soapstone and slate. These are ideal for that weathered look kitchen but a word to the wise, slate and stone are not as hard wearing as granite so if you do happen to drop the odd pan then don’t be surprised if you chip the surface.

If natural stone will take you beyond your planned expenditure but you still want the aesthetics that stone worktops bring then

technology has supplied an excellent alternative which is composite stone. Composite stone worktops have the look and feel of natural stone but are in fact man made. Not only are they extremely affordable and visually pleasing but they last well also.

Due to costs many people ultimately end up choosing a laminate worktop in preference to the more expensive options. Fortunately laminate kitchen worktops come in an absolute plethora of styles and colors too so it is almost impossible not to find one that is ideal for you. Today’s choice compared to not so many years ago means that you can still get that luxury look for your kitchen at an affordable price and quite often off the shelf in you are in a hurry.

Whatever style of kitchen worktop you ultimately choose make sure you make your choice earlier and do not leave it until last as your kitchen work surfaces are normally the most noticeable visual aspects of kitchen design, and your choice of color and material often dictates other aspect of your kitchen design too.

Declutter Your Space By Adding Shelving

One of the simplest methods to contribute more storage space to any room is with extra shelving. Wall shelving can be used to declutter the home and store anything from containers to books, and they are likewise ideal for exhibiting collectible items. No matter the use, wall shelving really is very easy to install, and no matter your skill level when it comes to home improvements, you can install metal wall supports and shelving without assistance. Vertical areas in your home can be utilized for storage or a spot to show off your items.

Locate the wall studs. If you want to have secure and safe wall shelving, it is important to locate at least one wall stud. Use a basic magnetic stud locator or an electronic stud locator to locate the wall studs prior to starting to add shelving. You do not have to spend a fortune when purchasing a stud locator because even the most inexpensive options are proficient enough to do the job.

Installing and leveling standards. The metal bars that support the shelving brackets are called standards. They are very simple to hang and level upright. Upon locating a wall stud, use an appropriately sized decking screw or drywall screw to secure the first standard to the wall; be cautious not to screw it in all the way. This will allow for adjustments to be made. Also, the screw should be at least one inch in length so it will adequately hold the weight of the shelving and any displayed items. Keep in mind that shelving over thirty-six inches in length or a unit that will hold more than two shelves should be outfitted with more than two standards. To guard against the shelving sagging, be sure to use at least three standards.

Once the first standard has been placed, utilize a level to determine the correct vertical positioning, and then sink a screw into the next hole. Securely attach screws to the wall in the rest of the holes, and do the same with the next standard after determining the distance it should be positioned from the first one. You will additionally have to make sure the standards are placed at the same height so the shelves will be level, and this is easily achieved by utilized a long carpenter’s level or laser level. Utilize a carpenter’s pencil to mark the proper locations.

Wall anchors are essential when the second standard will not be situated over a wall stud. Toggle bolts are the best types of wall anchors to utilize for this purpose. The wings are movable, and after the bolt and attachment are placed through the wall, the wings automatically open and hold the heavy item in place. Wall anchors made from plastic can also be used, but make sure they have the ability of securely supporting the weight of shelves and items that are to be displayed. Utilize the same technique of adding center standards, if necessary, but make sure that the toggle bolts fit through the holes if they are to be used.

Hanging brackets. The next step after the standards are in place you can then install the brackets that support the shelving. If the brackets are not long enough to accommodate the shelves, they can still be used. Simply the areas of the tips of the brackets against the shelving boards’ bottoms, and utilize a saw to make notches to accommodate the tips. Pay close attention to the load rating of the brackets before using them to support heavier items.

Place shelving on the brackets. Placing the shelving on the brackets. Expensive prefabricated finished or laminate wood shelves is not necessary. Inexpensive wooden planks purchased at your community home improvement outlet can be used instead. They can be cut to specifications before purchase, and they can be painted and decorated to coordinate with any color or style of room decor.
